However, we do continue to stream these games at 60 FPS.” Nvidia explains in that document: “For our Priority Members, the maximum frames rendered per second is generally set to 60, or higher, for most of the 1,100+ games we’ve onboarded so far. The in-game minimap will appear sharper and thus more detailed in the remasters. The results are impressive, to say the least, with gorgeous lighting and weather effects being a particular highlight.
Targeting and lock-on aiming return, but have been improved to feel less awkward. Additionally, PlayStation Now subscribers can access, download or stream Grand Theft Auto 3 – The Definitive Edition from December 7. So you won’t be experiencing a jerky gaming session – well, hopefully, but that depends on your internet connection, of course. The GTA Trilogy remaster trailer is a short one, clocking in at just under a minute, but it gives us the best look yet at what players could expect each game in the trilogy to look like. Rumors reported by Kotaku claimed originally that the GTA Trilogy remaster release date could be as soon as "late October or early November." Improved map system There’s also disappointment around there not being some mechanism whereby gamers could choose to lower graphics settings in these titles to enable 60 fps, and accept a visually poorer experience to get a smoother running game.
This is to ensure all Priority members are running a consistent, high-quality experience. Whether you’re on Xbox or PlayStation, you’ll be able to earn achievements or trophies in each of the three games This little episode has caused some anger among existing GeForce Now subscribers, as you might imagine. It’s fair to say it was relatively on the money, as the GTA Trilogy remaster came to all major consoles and PC on November 11, 2021 in digital format. Players can also set waypoints on the map in the menu, allowing for much easier navigation across each game’s massive environments.
At a fundamental level, GeForce Now is about shifting the demands from the device to the internet connection, and so the fair assumption is that if you have a fast enough connection, you’re going to be able to get the most out of the “1080p at 60 fps” promise that’s made for Priority members. Nvidia’s GeForce Now service is under the spotlight due to limitations on the streaming quality and frame rate for certain games, namely more intensive ones like Cyberpunk 2077, which are capped lower than 60 fps (frames per second) with its standard Priority subscription. Developed on Unreal Engine Developer Grove Street Games is working on the GTA Trilogy remaster. As good as this trilogy of criminal classics are, it’s hard to deny that they’re definitely long in the tooth, and each game has certainly aged considerably since they were originally released.
As long-time GeForce Now subscribers have asserted, go back a year and Cyberpunk 2077 ran fairly close to 60 fps overall, if not bang-on, but that all changed at the tail end of last year. Nintendo Switch release Most other titles in the list are pegged at 50 fps, and note that there are reports that Guardians of the Galaxy is also locked to 50 fps, although Nvidia doesn’t list it here. The GTA Trilogy remaster is comprised of three of the PS2 era’s best games: Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Nvidia has a list of capped titles as highlighted by 9 to 5 Google and on Reddit (via The Verge), with Team Green explaining why this is so, and which games have frame rate restrictions set below the 60 fps level, in a support document. The GTA Trilogy remaster has been developed in the Unreal Engine, allowing the games to look better than ever with massively overhauled weather and lighting effects, lending a level of atmosphere to them we’ve never seen before outside of unofficial PC mods.

p> GTA 3, especially, has needed a facelift as early as when it came out back in 2001. The GTA Trilogy remaster – officially titled Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition – is now available after months of rumors about its existence. The fact that it turns out there’s been an invisible asterisk on that 60 fps performance, and that a few of the most demanding titles are actually capped somewhat lower, is what’s causing prickliness among Nvidia’s streaming subscribers. Grove Street Games developing Interestingly sharing a name with the iconic location from San Andreas, the Florida-based company has worked on other ports Mali Dogs & Puppies for Rockstar, including iOS and Android ports for Bully: Scholarship Edition, Vice City and San Andreas. The Switch version of the trilogy will feature unique control options to complement the system’s bespoke features, too.
In all likelihood, though, Nvidia wants to keep its streaming service as user-friendly and straightforward to run as possible. The GTA Trilogy remaster, courtesy of the Unreal Engine, features an all-new lighting system that drastically improves just that, as well as weather effects, shadows and reflections. Now, those titles are coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC as part of this remastered trilogy. Although it’s worth noting upfront that 45 fps is far from unplayable – it’s just about smooth enough, but you wouldn’t want to go below that, and indeed it seems that this is the baseline for Nvidia’s OPS targets. So the default OPS [Optimal Playable Settings] for these specific graphics-intensive games cannot be overridden.
Switch exclusive controls “There are some exceptions that we determined do not run well enough at 60 FPS on the GPUs used by Priority members. Modernized controls Overhauled lighting The fact that Nvidia has just introduced the new RTX 3080 tier has also sparked some cynicism about the cheaper subscription being more limited, because as we saw above, Nvidia clarified that the new flagship plan has no capping whatsoever. Achievements and trophies confirmed As you can see, Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are the hardest hit games with the lowest 45 fps cap. The GTA Trilogy remaster is now confirmed to be heading to Nintendo Switch as well as all other major consoles and PC. Players can use the handheld’s touch screen to interact with menus and zoom / pan the camera.
What seems to be one of the best all-round new features are the trilogy’s updated controls, bringing them more in line with GTA 5 than the original games’ stiffer control schemes. What’s more, Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers are able to download and play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, on day one of release. Nvidia further notes that these OPS or Optimal Playable Settings are constantly evaluated, and therefore may change over time to ensure the best gameplay experience (perhaps for the better, then – or maybe the reverse).
While we do not foresee needing to do this in the future, it is impossible to anticipate the demands of unreleased games and the impact they might have on the server hardware.” Players can now access radial wheels for switching through weapons and radio stations. Each are among the best-selling PS2 games of all time, and have also found success on other platforms such as Xbox and PC. The Nintendo Switch version of the GTA Trilogy remaster features unique controls. As we’re still likely a few years away from being able to play GTA 6, the GTA Trilogy remaster is certainly the next best thing. Better texture quality As you may be aware, 60 fps is the advertised figure for performance on that plan, but there’s no chance of Cyberpunk 2077 running at that level, because it’s actually capped at 45 fps.
The affected graphically demanding games and their respective limits are as follows: Not only that, but gyro controls are featured to allow for motion-based aiming Gamers across the globe are now able to revisit the chaotic, crime-filled capers of Claude Speed, Tommy Vercetti and Carl "CJ" Johnson. One could argue that’s a little steep for a trilogy of older titles, but others might feel the improvements (detailed below) are substantial enough to warrant the price, we feel. 20 bucks per game isn’t a terrible deal, but we wouldn’t buy GTA: The Trilogy Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch right now.
This is surprising, considering the last game in the series to be released on Nintendo consoles was Chinatown Wars on the original DS. The team also ported the popular Ark: Survival Evolved to mobile devices. Released on November 11, 2021 (early December for the physical version), the GTA Trilogy remaster initially had us excited to revisit these classics, which include improved visuals, better controls and achievement and trophy support to name but a few new features.
It’s understandable that these folks feel that Team Green should have made this caveat clear. The trilogy costs $59.99 / £54.99 at launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but $49.99 / £49.99 on Switch. Interestingly, Nvidia confirmed to The Verge that there are no caps on its new top-tier GeForce Now RTX 3080 (120 fps) subscription, stating that: “We currently do not cap frame rates on RTX 3080 tier because of the performance gains over the previous generation server. Plus there may also be issues around performance being more CPU-bound on Nvidia’s servers with some titles, too, as gamers on Reddit have theorized in the past (meaning that even settings tweaking might have limited impact). So, this is viewed by some as a possible arm-twisting scenario for gamers to get on board with the more expensive plan, although the truth is that capping has apparently been implemented for some considerable time now, long before the RTX 3080 tier came in.
For those of you wanting a physical release, you’ll have to wait a bit longer until December 7. The remaster features upscaled, high resolution textures that apply to characters, buildings, weapons, vehicles, interior locations and more. An increased draw distance also allows more of each game world to appear on screen than ever before.
